Tours and activities are subject to a 48 hour cancellation policy. (some exceptions apply). No refunds will be provided within 48 hours of tour time. - What is the best time of year to visit Banff?
Banff is the perfect playground year-round! Whether you love to hit the slopes or tackle heart pumping rapids, there’s never a dull moment in the Rockies. The summer activities start in May and end late September. The winter activities start in December until early April. There are some activities such as Banff Gondola, Cave Tours, Hot Springs and Helicopter flights that operate year round.
- How far in advance should I book activities?
While there’s never a shortage of things to do, Banff is a popular destination for adventurers from all over the world. We recommend booking your favourite activities as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
- Do I need a Park Pass to visit Banff?
Yes. If you plan on spending time in and around Banff, you will need to purchase a Park Pass to cover the length of your stay. Passes range in price and duration, and fees help cover the annual cost of maintaining and protecting the park as well scenic parkways, day use areas, trails, and more. Park Passes can be purchased at the Banff Park Gate or at the Banff Visitor Information Centre located on Banff Ave. Banff National Park Fees vary, depending on the duration of stay and number op people in your party. The closest major airport is Calgary International Airport (YYC), located approximately 90 minutes away. There are several bus shuttles that operate between Banff and Calgary year round, as well as rental cars available. We can book your airport shuttle, just let us know!
- What should I wear to go exploring around Banff?
As a mountain town, Banff’s temperature can fluctuate throughout the year, as can the overall weather conditions. We strongly advise keeping an eye on the forecast before you arrive and packing according. During the summer you’ll want to prepare for long, sunny days and pack a hat, sturdy hiking shoes and thin layers (as well as a rain jacket) to keep yourself covered. During the winter, it’s important to remember that temperatures can drop rapidly overnight. Stay warm with a decent winter jacket, gloves, hat, and other weather-appropriate wear.
Leave something behind? Not to worry! There’s plenty of shops in town that will make sure you’re equipped.
- What is the average temperature for each season?
Because of its location in the Rocky Mountains, Banff’s weather can often be difficult to predict. During the winter, temperatures may range anywhere from 0 to -20°C before windchill, where the spring and summer are often much warmer and can get as high as 25 or 30°C.
- Where can we see wildlife?
Our wild neighbours roam all over, and can often be seen on many of our tours or while navigating the park. Bear in mind (no pun intended!) that these are wild animals that should not be approached, and are dangerous. Keep everyone safe by maintaining a reasonable distance, never feeding animals, and respecting their natural habitat!
- Are prices in Canadian (CAD) dollars?
Yes. All prices displayed are in local currency. There are multiple locations in Banff where you can exchange your currency.
- Can you book my flight, as well as my accommodation and activities?
Banff Adventures is happy to assist you with all your activities and accommodations, but you will need to book your flights.
- Do I need to tip?
Tipping is customary in Canada, especially for restaurant servers, drivers and guides. 10–20% of the price is an acceptable amount to tip, depending on the service provided.
- What time does the park close?
Banff National Park never closes. The information and ticket booths at the entry to the National park windows close at 11pm but you can still drive into the park. Just have to purchase your park pass the next day.
- How far is Lake Louise?
Lake Louise is located 45 minutes west of Banff. You can take the Trans Canada HWY 1 West, or the more scenic route of the Bow Valley Parkway.
